Flat Change Roll: Pattern and Instructions

Updated: Mar 29

After looking around at a few designs online, I found a couple similar products that I liked the look of - and I decided to try to make my own flat change roll to strap to my bike.

Full marks, this pattern is inspired by several other designs made by companies that look to build quality products and if you have the means I highly recommend you support them. If you are like me, and have a lot of recyclable material and the skills to do so - then by all means make your own.

This particular video shows the use of scrap inner tube, scrap cordura, and a 3d printed D ring. You could just as easily make this out of different materials. The tube helps to "stick" to the frame when you strap it down though. So get creative and toy around with some alternatives.

A few helpful notes:

  • It may help to clean the tubes with soap and water before sewing

  • make sure to use the "outside" of the tube sections for areas that will contact the frame, they just seem to adhere better

  • when possible, sew with the tube facing down to the feed dogs on the machine

  • I found that putting a layer of masking tape on the bottom of the presser foot also helped it not to stick to the tube

  • Long stitch lengths are best when working with inner tubes
